Lata Mangeshkar who is one of the most respected playback singers of India celebrates her 88th birthday on 28 September 2017. She is the senior most Indian singer whose first official biography in Bengali called Lata Mangeshkar- kichu Katha kichu gan was released on Wednesday to celebrate her 88th birthday. The biography has been written by Pallab Mitra who took her interview and published by Parul Prakashani. The Chief Minister of Bengal Mamata Banerjee will honor Lata Mangeshkar by awarding her Bangabibhusan award on October 20. CM will herself go to her house in Mumbai to give the award.
Family and Early life:
Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28 September 1929 in a Marathi-speaking family in Indore. Her father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, was a theatre actor and a classical singer who taught her first lessons of music. Right from the age of 5, she started working as an actress in her father’s musical plays. Her mother’s name is Shevanti who was from Thalner, Maharashtra. Her sister, Asha Bhosle is also a well-known singer.
Lata Mangeshkar started her career in 1942 by singing songs for a Marathi movie ‘Kiti Hasaal’. Then she sang her first Hindi song for the film Aap Ki Seva Main (1946). She got fame as her song ‘Aayega Aanewala’ for the Bollywood movie Mahal got super-hit in 1949. In 1963 her patriotic song ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon’ raised emotional sensations of the whole nation and even brought tears to the eyes of PM Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru. She has sung more than 5000 songs till date.
Lata has been honored with several awards, the prominent being Padma Bhushan in 1969, Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989, Padma Vibhushan in 1999, and ultimately the highest award of India Bharat Ratna in 2001.
