Manushi Chhillar, a medical student from Haryana, won the Miss World contest 2017 held at a Chinese resort in Sanya, China on Saturday 18-11-2017. She is just 20 years old and the sixth Indian winner of such a contest making India one of the most successful nations in the history of a beauty pageant. Earlier in 1994 and 2000, Bollywood actresses Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra won the Miss World pageants respectively.
Miss England Stephanie Hill and Miss Mexico Andrea Meza were first and second runners-up respectively in this glitzy event. Manushi Chhillar had a striking impressive impact on the judges who chose her winner among the 108 contestants from across the world.
Manushi did her schooling from St. Thomas School in New Delhi and then joined Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat. Manushi’s profile on Miss World website features her aiming to be a cardiac surgeon who has ideas to open non-profit hospitals in rural areas. She is also a trained classical dancer and likes adventure sports like snorkeling, scuba diving, and bungee jumping.
In reply to a question, Ms. Chhillar told that her mother is the biggest source of inspiration in her life to whom she pays the highest respect. She told this when she reached among the top five contestants of the event and expressed her opinion that rather than thinking about highest salary in a profession, the mother deserves the highest respect.
The home minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar was first to congratulate Chhillar for winning Miss World 2017 title. Earlier, Miss World 2016 title was won by Stephanie Del Valle from Puerto Rico. Stephanie Del Valle being last year’s winner handed the new 2017 crown to Ms. Chhillar.
Chhillar’s victory has immediately become a top trending topic on social media.
