Seven Indian TV Shows which Are Loosely Inspired From International TV

It is right to mention that the Indian TV industry is influenced by the International shows. So we discuss those Indian TV shows that are highly motivated by super hit international shows.

[1] Pyar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani

The TV serial ‘Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani’ was broadcasted on STAR One Channel from 18 October 2010 to 15 December 2011.  Ekta Kapoor is the producer of this supernatural TV series whose story is based on the American TV series ‘The Vampire Diaries’ that revolves around the lives of vampires and normal people. Vivian Dsena’s portrayal of a vampire in this series got a huge appreciation from the viewer’s especially the youth.

[2] Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi


Ekta Kapoor produced another TV show named ‘Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi’ that is inspired by the UK’s TV show based on Emily Bronte’s novel, Wuthering Heights. This soap opera was aired on Colors TV from 24 June 2014 to 19 February 2016. Shakti Arora and Radhika Madan played the lead roles in this serial which received a good response in the beginning but after that, the serial failed to grab the appreciation of the audience.


[3] Reporters


Goldie Behl directed the TV show ‘Reporters’ that got inspiration from the popular international series ‘Newsroom’. Kritika Kamra and Rajeev Khandelwal played the lead roles in this show who try to survive in the competitive world of journalism and also love each other. This series was aired on   Sony Entertainment Television from 13 April 2015 to 19 October 2015 but it did not get as much popularity as the show ‘Newsroom’.

[4] Kumkum Bhagya


Kumkum Bhagya is the soap opera that is aired on weeknights on Zee TV from 15 April 2014 and is loosely based on Jane Austen’s novel ‘Sense and Sensibility’. Ekta Kapoor has produced this series under the banner of Balaji Telefilms. Sriti Jha, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Mrunal Thakur, and Arjit Taneja have played lead roles in this series.  Sriti Jha and Shabbir Ahluwalia won the ITA award for Best Onscreen Couple 2015.

[5] The Kapil Sharma Show


The Kapil Sharma Show is aired on Sony TV from 23 April 2016 till present whose format is inspired by the famous British show, The Kumars At No 42. This show has obtained immense popularity in India. Kapil Sharma along with his team of comedians interacts with celebrity guests who come to promote their upcoming movies and this keeps the audience glued to the show followed by peals of laughter.

[6] Khatron Ke Khiladi


This is a stunt/dare reality game show based on the American show ‘Fear Factor‘. In this show, the contestants travel to mysterious locations where they face their worst fear. So they do some spectacular death- challenging stunts that have received a great response from the viewers. The show is aired on Colors TV starting from 21 July 2008 and has been presented by Akshay Kumar, Rohit Shetty, Priyanka Chopra, and Arjun Kapoor.

[7] 24


Bollywood star Anil Kapoor plays the lead role in this show which is the based on the popular US thriller series called 24. The show started from 4 October 2013 and is aired on Colors TV. Kapoor’s production house signed a $20 million deal to adapt the series which follows the real time format and its every episode shows one hour in the agent’s life. Anupam Kher and Shabana Azmi have cameo appearances in the show.
